Darlington Elementary School is proud to announce that Ms. Danielle O’Neill has been named principal for the 2025–2026 school year. Ms. O’Neill is no stranger to the Darlington community, having been promoted from the position of school’s assistant principal. She is excited to continue supporting students, families, and staff in her new leadership role.

The 2025-2026 school year marks her 10th year with Harford County Public Schools (HCPS). Before joining HCPS, Ms. O’Neill worked in the New York City Department of Education as an assistant principal, math coach, and classroom teacher. In New York City she taught second and third grades and supported students from prekindergarten through fifth grade as a math coach.

As principal, Ms. O’Neill looks forward to honoring Darlington’s strong traditions while adding her own unique touch. Her vision for the year is simple yet powerful: “To learn and grow with our community. To inspire and challenge students and staff to reach their goals while celebrating each step along the way.” Families can expect a principal who prioritizes safety, values meeting individual student needs, and draws on a wide range of experiences to guide her decisions.

At the heart of her work is a passion for building meaningful connections with students and families. She finds joy in watching students’ eyes light up when they discover something new and in supporting their growth academically, socially, and personally. Outside of school, she enjoys gardening, solving jigsaw puzzles, spending time at the beach, and being with her children and family.

A favorite quote that guides her work comes from educator Rita Pierson: “Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists they become the best they can possibly be.”

With her experience, vision, and commitment to the Darlington community, Ms. O’Neill is eager to continue leading students and staff into a successful school year.
